"No Longer Human" is a book by Osamu Dazai that discusses the life of a man who lives a troubling life trying to find his way back in to society. He lives in a postwar Japan, and has been through a lot of traumatic experiences in his life, and they continue to haunt him. This combined with changing space of the world causes him to make decisions that harm him, and cause him to question his own life and his position in humanity.
The original 2023 submission was untouched until I opened the file again a year later. I saw it had a lot of flaws, but lots of potential to be remade into a cleaner cover.
The book cover remains simple and very abstract, similar to the original cover. The silhouette represents the main character, and two splitting objects represent a split in mind and reality. The fading represents his identity fading away, and the warped red object represents the country of Japan and its flag, and how the country was being "warped" after the war.
Note: I used the Junji Ito version of the book for the project, so the cover appears in the right spine manga format.
